Welcome to East Jackson
Church of the Nazarene
We're so glad you took the
time to check out our website. Like most Christian websites you'll find basic
information about directions, useful links to other sites, and statements
relating to what we believe about God, his son Jesus Christ, his Holy Spirit
and how these truths interact with the lives of believers. We hope you find all
the information useful and relevant.
I like to think of EJCN as a
unique venture in Kingdom living and reality. I think this way, not because we
are doing a new thing, but because it is our heart to do the most biblical
thing possible. To be sure there are many churches that offer sound biblical
teaching, but we find ourselves as Christians, Nazarenes and as a New Start,
desiring to do and be the full expression of all that Christ has called us to
be. That means 24/7, taking up your cross daily, losing your life to find it,
Christianity. Jesus' great commission to go and preach the gospel to every
creature and (the other half) teaching them to do everything I have commanded
you, was not an option, it was a command that stated the Church's reason for
existing upon the earth. Anything less is simply not the Church.
We seek to come against the
current "fads" in Christianity by preaching a truth that is founded
on the inerrant Word of God. And we seek to preach and teach the whole truth,
not just what is easy to hear or easy to swallow. Biblical truth contains many
elements, and it was our Lord's call to preach the whole truth that we give our
attention to. Jesus said, "you will know the truth and the truth will set
you free." So where is the freedom we're supposed to see in the Church? It
is the truth. Psalm 119:160 says, "the sum of your word is truth. Contrary
to popular thinking, truth can be known and liberating truth is always ours
through faith in Christ.
We want this to be a place
where real love, agape love, is poured out on you. Giving up your life for your
friends was what Jesus called the greatest love. We want you to find that here.
Our hope is this will be fleshed out in our community structure-what we call
12/12. This is ours and the bible's way of fulfilling the second part of the
great commission. 12/12 seeks to place each believer in a small community of
other trusted, accountable believers. In this way we can fulfill the various
one another's scripture speaks of (pray for each other, carry one another's
burdens, etc.). We have found through much experience, personally, historically
and, most important, biblically that this is the very best way to insure an
ongoing and dynamic relationship with each other and with our Lord Jesus.
The word we like to use
around here most frequently is intentional. We find no place in the scriptures
or from experience that approves of a lukewarm or apathetic approach to our
faith. Everything about the early church, its leaders and those who came after,
who made their mark on the Kingdom, was intentional. The language of the
Kingdom is always pro-active;
So, in brief, that's what
we're about. No more "social club" Christianity. We exist for one
purpose: to reconcile a lost and dying world back to its creator. We would love
to have you join us in this endeavor and if you have any questions please let
us know.
For the Kingdom,
Pastor Ralph Edwards
